SITMW Day 1: Day 2 ... wait what??

The intended purpose of this post is to provide a brief recap of the important things to not regarding the current Stick it to the man day. That said, today's most interesting bit of news is that unofficially stick it to the man week kicked off yesterday. The kickoff was unplanned, and unintended. But the party gods do not give two shits from a chinaman's chin what your plans are. This is after all about the rock.

So yes, we've jumped ahead to day 2 already. Technically yesterday wasn't about the music. Though hearing Operation Ivy's "she's a bombshell" at a bowling alley is among the day's highlights for certain. Also that weird drunk dude that had to come personally thank me for picking Styxx's "renegade" was a highlight ( or low light, but memorable none the less).

There is already a serious anxiety born from my fear that I won't be able to keep this up. But with your help and support I am going to do this come hell or high water.

Tonight should prove to be quite epic. First off, tonight's band, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart are a band that are quickly gaining a lot of print space. They play an older, fuzzier, 80's era shoegaze rock. I would compare their sound to a cross between My Bloody Valentine and the Smiths. With a definitely touch of pop sensibilities. Reviews of their self titled debut weer pretty varied as pitchfork awared the BNM title, and a headling spot at the p4k festival this summer. Then there's TMT who essentially downplayed the band and basically called them out as borning. My opinions lie somewhere in between. I really enjoy the sound, but I wouldn't go so far as to say they're some unique talent. Good, cool songs that are fun to listen to, and will provide for a massive sound inside the small confines of the bug jar.

On top of that it also happens to be my friend, Kristin's birthday .... so yeah, an added excuse to drink more and celebrate more heavily ... what a way to get this party started, huh?

On the bright side, its come to my attention that my boss has an out of state meeting tomorrow, so he'll just have to hear about how out of it was, and won't get the chance to actually witness it .... see you on the flip side
