now we can pee

Let the experiment begin

My first serious foray into the test case will with an album that I have been dying to get my hands on. The Thermals - Now We Can See was released yesterday to a positive review on TMT. Needless to say this has me highly encouraged. Honestly the thermals aren't about anything other than GREAT pop punk. Catchy, interesting songs. Lyrics that are easy and fun to sing along to.

Update: I'm 30 seconds into track 1 ... yes its a thermals album. Maybe that's why I enjoy them so much. What you see is what you get. And that's something that I'm appreciative of. What's this? The thermals didn't decide to do their "disco album". Oh no! They must suck as a band because they don't try to create uninteresting music with their own unique stamp.

A good follow up post could pit Now We Can See vs. 200 Million Thousand . Only because I feel like I'm contradicting myself a bit here. However I wonder if Black Lips followed their formula on Good Bad Not Evil if I would have felt the same way.

Regardless the show in buffalo is going to be sick. Man, Marnie, Titus Andronicus, Thermals, Animal Collective, Band of Horses, Tv On the Radio, Of Montreal are all going to be seen live in the next few months ... i can hardly believe that. If there is any possible way I can swing that camera obscura show in toronto (which is looking doubtful) that would pretty much make the next 3 months of my life the greatest string of musical experiences ...

Update 2: One thing I am immediately hesistant to accept is the message of "hopefullness" on the new album. Fuckin A was harsh, hard, punk ... yet fun. The Body, The Blood, The Machine was scathing, punk ... yet fun. This album seems light, hopeful, punk-lite ... yet fun. I think I enjoyed the the darker themes presented in previous work. Too early to call. At least initially I am enjoying the first single
